Airbus and its partners took the opportunity at the International Fighter Conference, held in Berlin on 12 November, to unveil the new electronic combat role (ECR) concept of Eurofighter Typhoon.
The Eurofighter Typhoon ECR concept enlarges the aircraft’s multi-role capabilities, giving passive emitter location capabilities, and facilitating the active jamming of enemy targets and the suppression/destruction of enemy air defences (SEAD/DEAD). The twin-seat configuration will feature multi-function panoramic touch displays and a dedicated mission cockpit for the rear seat.
Among the companies working on the ECR concept along with Airbus are Hensoldt, MBDA, MTU and Rolls-Royce. This new version of the aircraft is expected to start entering inventories by 2026.
