ARES Shipyard is preparing to start the mass production of 122 ARES 35 FPBs (Fast Patrol Boat) for the Coast Guard Command. According to the information shared by the company on 20 March, the end of the project design verification is near and the final model tests have been carried out in the Critical Design Review (CDR) phase. Mass production of the boats is planned to start in the second quarter of 2020.
Utku Alanç, General Manager of ARES Shipyard, made the following evaluations on the subject: “This project represents the largest mass production in the history of Turkey’s shipbuilding and will certainly break an important record in the world’s shipbuilding archives. In this project that is planned to take 5 years to complete, we will build 122 ARES 35 FPBs. On the other hand, the contract allows for additional ships up to two times of the number of ships in the original order. According to the production plan, we will deliver 6 boats every two months. We aim to launch each boat in just one week and only ARES Shipyard can achieve this!” ARES 35 FPBs will be used for tasks such as combating irregular migration and smuggling, search and rescue activities, and exclusive economic zone security. The platform, whose classification service is provided by Türk Loydu, will be 12 metres in length, 3.7 metres in width, and 0.80 metres of draft. The boats that will be powered by 2 diesel engines will be capable of reaching 35 knots as their maximum speed. And the maximum range of the boats was announced as 160 nautical miles.
