Providing a wide range of helmet system products, also including a variety of solutions for aircraft personnel, Gentex-Norbo focused on raising awareness of laser threats that may be encountered by pilots during critical phases of flight. At IDEF’19 Show, the laser protective eyewear and visor products received particular interest among the members of both armed forces and law enforcement. The company also introduced a wide range of helmet system solutions.
In various parts of the world, news about the laser threat faced by pilots during landing and take-off is frequently featured in daily press, but this threat constitutes a more serious danger on the military side. Colour lasers are visible to the human eye and their damage is temporary. However, infrared lasers that emerged as a new threat cannot be detected by the human eye and can cause a severe permanent damages like blindness. Serdar Edgü, General Manager of Gentex-Norbo, explained this new threat: “Lasers in the near infrared wavelength that cannot be seen with the naked eye constitute a new threat and they are classified as high-level threat since they may cause a permanent eye damage. Therefore, personnel serving in the field must be protected against this threat.”
Speaking about the solution offered by Gentex-Norbo, Edgü said: “Gentex has developed a line of laser protective eyewear and visors to combat emerging laser threats that may be faced by aircrew during critical times of flight. At IDEF’19, we are seeking to draw attention to this threat and to introduce our protective solutions that can be used during day or night. During dialogues with our visitors, we observe that we have highly achieved our promotional targets with our products designed for law enforcement officers, border patrol teams, emergency teams and military personnel.”
Among the extensive helmet product family introduced by Gentex-Norbo at the event, the HGU-56/P ABH, which also offers ballistic protection, was of particular interest. Providing more than 100 percent extra ballistic protection than standard HGU-56/P helmets at no extra weight by the use of advanced material technologies, the ABH model has been developed specifically for rotary-wing platforms and has already received orders from Turkey.
