CANİK continues its innovations in the sub-compact market segment with the TP9 Sub Elite CAS and TP9 Elite SC CAS. These handguns feature a built-in fibre tritium optic night sight integrated into the cover, increasing accuracy in day and night use, and providing considerable concealed carry comfort to the user. Gençay Gençer, Corporate Communications and Business Development Manager of Samsun Yurt Savunma (SYS) answered our questions about this latest member of the TP9 family.

MSI TDR: Mr. Gençer, not long ago we spoke with you about the CANİK TP9 Elite Sub Compact (SC) model, and its first-place success in the “Concealed Carry Pistol of The Year” category at the Industry Choice Awards event, held annually for the firearms sector in the United States. Can we today talk about your latest products in the sub-compact segment? What makes your CANİK brand so assertive in the sub-compact market segment?

Gençay GENÇER: Our CANİK brand has consolidated its place in the increasingly competitive sub-compact market with the “Concealed Carry Pistol of the Year” award winner TP9 Elite SC, as well as its domestic variant, the TP9 Sub Elite. The TP9 Elite SC, which launched in the United States in October last year and has received top marks from all authorities, is a result of CANİK’s ambitious efforts to compete in the sub-compact segment.

I would like to stress another thing: With our CANİK brand, we are assertive not only in the sub-compact segment, but in all segments; which we have demonstrated by winning the “Handgun of the Year” award three times over the last four years in the full size, compact and sub-compact market segments.

The CAS design allows the combined use of the FT Bullseye and the classic flip-up sight set to best meet personal preferences and expectations.

The sub-compact segment, due to its very nature, is an area in which all serious handgun manufacturers place special emphasis. The main reason for the intense competition in this segment is that these handguns are the most popular for personal security and home/local security, with one in every three weapons sold in the United States being sub-compact or micro sub-compact handguns. As such we are reinforcing our position in this market.

MSI TDR: It is apparent that SYS launches new models in the final quarter of each year. Can you tell us about this tradition?

Gençay GENÇER: Yes, as SYS, we do have such a tradition. We like releasing at least one model in the last quarter of the year, setting our sights on dominating in the coming year. We are ending this year with the TP9 Sub Elite CAS, a model that includes a new technology in the sub-compact segment, in which competition is increasing day by day.

First, I would like to state that CANİK’s ability to surpass its competitors in the sub-compact segment can be attributed to a series of carefully thought-out features. All the controls of the TP9 Elite SC and the TP9 Sub Elite are accessible from both the left and right; the distance to the handgun control mechanisms are the same as with larger CANİK handguns; and the handguns can be mounted with accessories such as micro-optic sights and flashlights appropriate for use with a rear sight, all of which are features that put our products ahead of those of our rivals.

In CAS models, the specially designed structure of the sight and its integration into the cover allows for quick and smooth drawing, making the handgun even more effective.

Our CANİK brand has redefined standards in the sub-compact segment by bringing together all of these features, and this has even led to the transformation of sub-compact handguns from secondary handgun into duty handgun. As such, CANİK has become the main firearm of security forces personnel in reconnaissance-intelligence missions performed in civilian gear, and in close protection tasks performed in suits.

We are confident that we will become a talking point in the sub-compact segment next year with the TP9 Sub Elite CAS, which is set to launch in the coming days, and its counterpart being released onto the United States market, the TP9 Elite SC CAS.

MSI TDR: What does the “CAS” at the end of the model’s name mean?

Gençay GENÇER: Short for the “Canik Advanced Sight System”, CAS is a technological infrastructure adaptation that the CANİK R&D centre has been working on for around a year. This adaptation combines the use of mechanical sights and fibre tritium optic day/night sights, and can be applied to any CANİK handgun you desire. In order to introduce the CAS technology, we first opted for sub-compact handguns, as one of our favorite platforms.

The CAS sight, which runs without power, allows shooters to engage the target very quickly and accurately in light or dark environments.

MSI TDR: Could you tell us about the sub-compact models with CAS technologies?

Gençay GENÇER: The TP9 Sub Elite CAS and TP9 Elite SC CAS are the CAS-integrated versions of the TP9 Sub Elite and TP9 SC Elite handguns. These versions have two new features. First, the FT Bullseye (fibre-tritium optic night sight – a patented technology) integrated into the cover provides them with a very low profile. This special sight requires no batteries and allows shooters to engage the target very quickly and accurately in light or dark environments. The specially designed structure and integration of the sight into the cover has further improved the design of this handgun, allowing for quick and smooth drawing. In addition, the unique design of CAS allows the FT Bullseye and classic flip-up sight to be used in combination to best meet the personal preferences and expectations of the user. As such, shooters who so desire can use the supplied flip-up sight set by mounting it onto the weapon.

The second innovation in the CAS versions of the sub-compact CANİK handguns is the diamond-cut flat aluminium trigger that breaks at a 90° angle.

Our second innovation in the CAS version of the sub-compact handguns is the diamond-cut flat aluminium trigger that breaks at a 90° angle. This trigger is an improved version of the patented flat aluminium trigger found on the TP9 Elite-S Combat model. On this new trigger, the diamond-cut surface prevents slippage, providing the shooter extraordinary trigger control, while the shortened pretravel and reset distance allows the shooter to shoot faster. Increasing the angle of breakage to 90° is a first in the mass-produced handgun sector around the world. This feature, which is generally seen in sportive trigger mechanisms, carries the superiority of our CANİK brand in trigger technologies one step further and into a new dimension.

To summarize, CANİK is continuing to redefine the standards in the sub-compact market segment with the TP9 Sub Elite CAS and TP9 Elite SC CAS.

On behalf of our readers, we would like to thank Gençay Gençer, the Corporate Communications and Business Development Manager of SYS, for taking the time to answer our questions and for providing us with such valuable information.
