Hulusi Akar, Minister of National Defence paid a visit to HAVELSAN’s facilities on 25 February with an accompanying delegation, during which he was introduced to the Barkan unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) under development. Barkan is a tracked platform that is equipped with a SARP-L remote controlled weapon system and electro-optic systems integrated onto a telescopic mast. HAVELSAN plans to launch Barkan officially in June.
Minister Akar was accompanied during the visit by General Yaşar Güler, Commander of the Turkish Armed Forces; General Ümit Dündar, Commander of The Turkish Land Forces; General Hasan Küçükakyüz, Commander of the Turkish Air Force; Admiral Adnan Özbal, Commander of the Turkish Naval Force; and Muhsin Dere, Deputy Minister of National Defence. After being welcomed by Mustafa Murat Şeker, Chairman of the Board of Directors of HAVELSAN and other members of the Board of Directors, and by Dr. Mehmet Akif Nacar, General Manager of HAVELSAN, Minister Akar was briefed about the company’s closed and ongoing projects. After the briefing, the delegation visited HAVELSAN’s Simulation, Autonomous and Platform Management Technologies building, where Minister Akar examined various simulators, including the Hezarfen Parachute Training Simulator, and tested the Sniper Training Simulator. Akar and General Küçükakyüz also took a short trip over Istanbul in the Airbus A320 Full Flight Simulator produced by HAVELSAN for Turkish Airlines.
