French Naval Forces Prefers HENSOLDT’s Radar Solution for Offshore Patrol Ships

by Can Kılınç

HENSOLDT’s UK-based business, HENSOLDT UK, will provide the Kelvin Hughes Mk11 SharpEye search radar and the integrated HENSOLDT MSSR 2000 IFF system for the French Naval Forces’ next generation offshore patrol vessels. Radar and IFF systems will be used on 6 ships to be built under the POM program. The development was announced by HENSOLDT on 7 July.

The antenna of the MSSR 2000 IFF system will be located on the same pedestal as the antenna of the Mk11 SharpEye radar, and both antennas will rotate together. Thus, the number of systems rotating on the ship will be reduced and fewer units will be needed on the ship. In this way, it is also aimed to facilitate the integration of antennas on the ship. HENSOLDT emphasises that the integration of radar and IFF offers an ideal solution for small vessels.

Radar and IFF systems will be integrated into the combat management system of NEXEYA, another HENSOLDT subsidiary, on ships.
