İŞBİR Elektrik Celebrates 40th Anniversary

by Can Kılınç

İŞBİR Elektrik Sanayi A.Ş., the leading manufacturer of alternators and generators for the defence industry, is celebrating its 40th anniversary in August. Founded on August 15, 1977, and operating as a subsidiary of the Turkish Armed Forces Foundation since 1988, İŞBİR has taken part in Turkey’s major defence projects over the past 40 years.

These include projects such as MİLGEM (National Ship), LST (Tank Landing Ship), YTKB (New Type Patrol Boat), TAFICS (Turkish Armed Forces Integrated Communication System), TASMUS (Tactical Field Communication System), X-Band (Satellite Communication System), ADOP (Firing Support Automation Project), KMS (Pedestal Mounted Stinger), MHAVHS (Joint Operations Area Data Communication System), JEMUS (Gendarmerie Integrated Communication and Information System), and MİLKED (Mobile High Frequency Prediction and Monitoring System).

İŞBİR is hopeful about the future. With its R&D centre certified by the Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology in May, the company continues to develop the future technologies in its field, while also manufacturing the alternators, panels, chasses, and cabins used in its own products. It is also working with its local partners to manufacture engines within Turkey. The company has also drawn attention in recent times with the silent generators it is working on. These silent generators patented to İŞBİR are intended to be used for military applications, as well as in yachts and civil applications, such as live broadcast vehicles and mobile service vehicles.

İŞBİR is also keeping track of developments in order to assume a role in the renewable energy industry, which is currently one of the main topics on Turkey’s agenda.

In MSI TDR’s September issue, we will publish the interview we will hold with Burhan Özgür, General Manager of İŞBİR, about İŞBİR’s past 40 years, current state of its operations, and future goals.
