Leonardo and CAE announced on March 29 that they established a joint venture company called “Leonardo CAE Advanced Jet Training Srl” to support the day-to-day operations of the International Flight Training School (IFTS). The new company will provide training support services including the operation and full maintenance of the M-346 aircraft and its ground-based training system within the IFTS, which is currently under construction at Italy’s Decimomannu Air Base. The joint venture will also operate the base facilities of IFTS.
In addition to 22 M-346 aircraft, full-mission flight simulators and other training devices will be operated for IFTS, which is expected to be operational in 2022. The training will be delivered by a cadre of active-duty Italian Air Force pilots as well as a multinational team composed of highly experienced international former military instructor pilots.
