Polish Navy’s First Leonardo AW101 Helicopter Makes its First Flight

by Buse Köse

The first of four Leonardo AW101 helicopters to be supplied to the Polish Navy successfully completed its maiden flight on 19 July in Yeovil. Thus, the test studies, which will cover the entire helicopter and will take approximately 700 flight hours, have started.

The Polish Ministry of National Defence announced in April 2019 that it had chosen the Leonardo AW101 model for four helicopters to undertake anti-submarine warfare and combat search and rescue missions. The project, which includes the supply of helicopters and a comprehensive integrated logistics and training package, is being carried out under the main contractor of PZL-Świdnik. Leonardo carries out its work on the project at its facilities in Italy and the United Kingdom.
