Navantia and BMT have agreed to cooperate in the design and build of a new generation fleet solid support ship for the British Royal Navy. The two firms unveiled their proposal for the tender (Fleet Solid Support Program / FSS) at a press conference at DSEI 2019 on September 10. The contract covers the design and construction of three ships that will be operated by the Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA), and will provide logistical and operational support to the Royal Navy.

The event served to highlight the knowledge and experience of Navantia and BMT. Navantia has recently undertaken support ship projects for Spain and Australia, while BMT has been putting its notable design capabilities to work in ship projects for the navies of the United Kingdom and various other countries.

Navantia and BMT later organized an event for FSS suppliers on the sidelines of the DSEI exhibition, which was attended by 89 representatives from 70 UK companies.

While their initial cooperation will be for the fleet solid support ships, Navantia-BMT intend to establish a long-term relationship with the United Kingdom involving other programs in the future.
