by Şafak Kaan Oğraş

PNS BADR, the third vessel of Pakistan MİLGEM project, was launched on 20 May with a ceremony in Karachi. The project is still underway, with ASFAT, an organisation under Ministry of National Defence, being its main contractor. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan graced the ceremony with a video message, while Hulusi Akar, Minister of National Defence and Shehbaz Sharif, Prime Minister of Pakistan attended the ceremony.

Four MİLGEM corvettes are to be finished in the project, with two vessels being constructed in Türkiye and two in Pakistan. The ships are equipped with systems and weapons chosen by Pakistan that make them different than the ones serving in the Turkish Navy. The fourth and last ship of the project is expected to be launched in September while the delivery of all four ships will commence in August 2023, with 6-month intervals between each delivery.
