Roketsan Expanding Its Smart Micro Munition Products Family

MAM-T, the New Striking Force of the Armed UAVs, Is Ready for Duty

MAM-T, the new member of Roketsan’s Smart Micro Munition (MAM) family, hit its targets’ bull’s eye in the firing test. Developed as compatible with new types of Armed Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (Armed UAVs) such as AKINCI, MAM-T provides a longer operational endurance and range than other members of the family. MAM-T, which will be exhibited at IDEF 2021 for the first time, is planned to enter the inventory of the Turkish Armed Forces (TAF) this year.

As one of the leading companies in the defence industry, Roketsan, with new munitions, continues to contribute to the Armed UAV fleet, where Turkey is increasingly expanding its footprint every day. Developed by Roketsan to meet the requirements for higher destructive power and longer range, MAM-T successfully completed the firing tests. MAM-T is planned to be put into mass production and delivered to the TAF together with AKINCI Armed UAV within this year.

MAM-T is prepared to enter the inventory following the other members of the family, MAM-C and MAM-L. It draws attention with its larger warhead and its longer range, even at lower release speeds. Developed by the utilization of domestic and national capacities, MAM-T’s potential targets include armoured and soft-skinned vehicles, buildings and other surface targets. Optimized in terms of weight/effectiveness, MAM-T offers its users a range performance exceeding 30 kilometres when released from Armed UAVs, 60 kilometres from light attack aircrafts and 80 kilometres from fighter aircrafts.

MAM-T also has offers a mid-phase guidance capability that is supported by Global Positioning System (GPS) and Inertial Navigation System (INS). Block-1 configuration of the munition provides high precision against moving and stationary targets with its semi-active laser seeker.

Higher Effectiveness, Longer Range

Sharing his assessments on MAM-T, Murat İkinci, General Manager of Roketsan, said, “Our Smart Micro Munition family, MAM for short, is far ahead of its competitors in the world. As Roketsan, we continue our work on our combat proven MAM family, which has provided serious advantages to TAF to date, by reshaping them in line with the emerging requirements. we have developed MAM-T compatible with the capabilities of AKINCI, which is planned to be used by TAF in the near future. MAM-T has already proved its success in firing tests with its higher destructive power and longer range.”

First Deliveries Will be Performed in the First Half of the Year

Noting that the first operational prototypes of the MAM-T were completed and made ready for ground tests and firing operations after the preliminary tests performed with AKINCI, İkinci said, “We successfully completed our flight test operations including the firing tests, started on January 25th. We are planning to make the initial deliveries within this year together with AKINCI in line with the 1st phase of its delivery schedule. After the completion of qualification tests and other testing activities, we anticipate to reach mass production capacity at full pace in the second half of 2021.”

MAM-T is planned to be put into mass production and delivered to the Turkish Armed Forces together with AKINCI Armed UAV within this year.
