Roketsan held a ceremony at its facilities in Lalahan on 23 June for the launch of the Zero Waste Project it initiated. First Lady Emine Erdoğan, as well as Murat Kurum, the Minister of Environment and Urbanisation, Prof. Dr. İsmail Demir, President of Defence Industries, Prof. Dr. Faruk Yiğit, Chairman of the Board of Roketsan, and Murat İkinci, the General Manager of Roketsan participated in the ceremony.

Addressing the guests at the ceremony, Erdoğan congratulated Roketsan on their work within the scope of the Zero Waste Project and the 33rd anniversary of its establishment and said: “Roketsan is a very strong actor of the defence industry as well as a follower of social issues. You are a pioneer in the sector with what you do to empower women in the defence industry. We see that female employees are in leadership positions and decision-making mechanisms. I think this sensitivity is really admirable.”’

Erdoğan, who examined Roketsan’s work on the spot, gave the Zero Waste Certificate prepared by the Ministry of Environment and Urbanisation to Prof. Dr. Yiğit.

Roketsan managed to obtain a total income of ₺1 million by separating over 1,095 tons of waste annually in 2019 and 2020 with its waste management works. It is calculated that an average of 850 adult trees are saved every year, 205,000 kWh of energy is saved, and 8,850 kg of greenhouse gas emissions are prevented with what Roketsan has done about the management of paper waste alone.
