Newly developed by Roketsan, the SUNGUR portable air defence system has successfully passed its firing tests. Developed together with various Turkish defence and aerospace sector companies, SUNGUR is the latest member of Turkey’s growing air defence systems family. In a 1 July statement, Prof. Dr. İsmail Demir, President of Defence Industries, stated that SUNGUR is ready to enter the inventory, and provided additional information about the programme. It was emphasised that SUNGUR is a leader in its class, thanks to its effectiveness against aerial elements, its high manoeuvrability, its high firing accuracy, its counter countermeasure features, its titanium warhead and its long-range target sighting ability. The other features of the system listed were its mobile firing capability, its target detection/identification/tracking at day or night, and its 360-degree firing capability. The system can be integrated onto land, air and naval platforms.
