From Submachine Guns to Heavy Machine Guns, Fully Automatic Weapons from Sarsılmaz

by Aybars Meric

Product range of Sarsılmaz include many different automatic weapons. Of these the company recently highlights the SAR 762 MT and SAR 127 MT machine guns and SAR 109T submachine gun. Sarsılmaz aims to meet the needs of both infantry and platforms with the 7.62×51 mm SAR 762 MT which has 4 different versions. The company answers the need for high firepower with its 12.7×99 mm SAR 127 MT heavy machine gun. The 9×19 mm SAR 109T submachine gun draws attention with its light weight, efficiency, ease of use and high rate of fire.

SAR 127 MT heavy machine gun

Sarsılmaz started to develop the SAR 762 MT within the scope of the PMT 7.62×51 project signed with the Presidency of Defence Industries (SSB) in 2018. The company successfully completed the tests, started mass production and made the first deliveries of the SAR 762 MT to the Gendarmerie General Command (GCG).

Latif Aral Aliş, Chairman of the Board of Sarsılmaz

The company developed the SAR 127 MT heavy machine gun within the scope of the PMT 12.7 project, also initiated by the SSB, and started the prototype tests of the weapon. On the other hand, Sarsılmaz continues to strengthen its infrastructure for the mass production of these weapons.

It Will Be Used as a Co-axial Gun in ALTAY Tank

SAR 762 MT has 4 different models. Of these, SAR 762 MT-A can be used in remote controlled weapon systems (RCWS). Developed for infantry use, the SAR 762 MT-B model, on the other hand, can be fired from both a bipod and a tripod. SAR 762 MT-C is aimed to be used in ALTAY main battle tank as a co-axial machine gun. Having very similar features to the SAR 762 MT-B, the SAR 762 MT-D’s rate of fire can be changed thanks to its 3-position gas valve.

The body of all SAR 762 MT’s models are durable for at least 50,000 rounds. And all the models have barrel-life of at least 25,000 rounds. The gun can operate between -52 and +72 C. The machine gun has an effective range of 1,200 meters for area targets, and a maximum range of 3,725 meters. The average weight of the gun’s different models is 12 kg.

The SAR 127 MT weighs approximately 38 kg, and has an effective range of 1,830 meters for area targets when used with a tripod.

SAR 127 MT Will Have the Last Word in the Combat

Able to provide significant fire support in battle, SAR 127 MT heavy machine gun can fire both fully automatically and single shots. Similar to SAR 762 MT-A, SAR 127 MT, which can also be integrated into RCWSs, can also be mounted on land, sea and air vehicles by making the necessary interface connections. The weapon weighs approximately 38 kg, and has an effective range of 1,830 meters for area targets when used with a tripod.

Non-stop Fire with Quick Change Barrel (QCB)

Both SAR 127 MT and SAR 762 MT are belt-fed and fully automatic machine guns. The guns can easily adapt to the design of the RCWS to which they will be integrated or the firing position where they will be placed since the belt feed can be done from both the right and the left. The air cooled guns also have a quick change barrel (QCB) feature. Thus, in situations where the weapon needs to be fired continuously, such as in battles requiring intense suppressive fire, the machine gunner can quickly and safely replace the heated barrel with a spare one. And the gun can continue to the battle without losing its firepower.

Agile Weapon for the Urban Warfare: SAR 109T

SAR 762 MT-A has been developed to be integrated to remote controlled weapon systems.

SAR 109T submachine gun is another product recently highlighted by Sarsılmaz. The submachine gun draws attention with its light weight, efficiency, ease of use and high rate of fire.

Genuinely developed to meet the tactical needs of close-quarters combat, SAR 109T allows easy mounting of a wide range of accessories with its modular structure.  Any accessory with a NATO standard mounting mechanism, can be attached on the Picatinny Rails of the gun.

As a system of operation, SAR 109T is operating with blowback mechanism and fires the standard 9×19 mm diameter NATO ammunition. The ammunition feed is provided with magazines having the capacity of 10, 20 or 30 bullets and rate of fire is notably high with 900 rounds per minute. Having the barrel length of 220 mm, SAR 109T weighs 3,032 grams with fully loaded magazine having 30 rounds.

Renovated with polymer rail covers enabling an easier grip and a modern tactical stock, SAR 109T recently received a new look. This weapon is actively used in the field by Turkish Armed Forces (TAF), GGC and Turkish National Police (TNP).

Along with its standard version, SAR 109T is also have a version for civilian use and a version with a carrying handle.

SAR 762 MT-B will be used by infantry. Having very similar features to the SAR 762 MT-B, SAR 762 MT-D’s rate of fire can be changed thanks to its 3-position gas valve.
