SEDEC Talks has realised its first online video conference on 18 May, during which high-level representatives of both Turkish and international companies have pointed out the expectations of their respective industries after the COVID-19 pandemic. Turksat, Airbus, SpaceX, Turkish Aerospace, Leonardo and AQST executives have drawn a positive outlook for the future after the pandemic.
The opening speech was made by Murat Çizgel, Head of the Department of Industrialization of the Presidency of Defence Industries (SSB) and the event was moderated by Cenk Şen, CEO of Türksat.
Speaking at the beginning of the event, Hilal Ünal Türkan, Head of Organisation Committee of SEDEC has stated the following; “We are going through unprecedented times with very rapid changes. During these periods, security and security-related industries have to continue their activities to ensure the security of their nations.”
Murat Çizgel, Head of the Department of Industrialization of SSB has summarized the progress of the Turkish defence and aerospace industry, explained the point of view that SSB has brought to international cooperation and provided an intro about the topics that will be spoken about from Turkey’s perspective.
Cenk Şen, the CEO of Türksat made a brief assessment before directing questions to the participants. Şen stated: “Defence and security environment has changed greatly in recent years and as a result of the technological developments so far, the concepts of cyber space and cyber security have also been added to the operational environment.” The participants of the conference, have explained the effects of the pandemic on their activities, the issues they have been working on recently and their plans for the future, trough the answers they gave to questions asked by Şen.
Jean-Marc Nasr, Executive Vice President Space Systems of Airbus Defence and Space has stated that they do not expect any delay regarding the Türksat 5A satellite.
Tom Ochinero, Vice President of Commercial Sales of SpaceX gave information about the reusability of their rockets and summarized the current situation on the Starlink project.
Prof. Dr. Temel Kotil, CEO & President of Turkish Aerospace announced that they are aiming to start working at full capacity on 1 June.
Camillo Pirozzi, International Marketing & Strategic Campaigns Vice President of Turkey and Central Asia of Leonardo has stated that they started a digital transformation process across Leonardo with the start of the outbreak.
Gurvinder Chohan, CEO of AQST has said that they are working on technologies such as hybrid satellites with RF and optics payloads, quantum encryption and artificial intelligence.
The event, with Türksat as the Communications Sponsor and MSI Turkish Defence Review as the Official Publication and Media Sponsor, was also supported by Thermacool and Teknopark Ankara. The event, which was carried out through the XperMeet video conferencing software developed by BİTES, was broadcast live via Türksat Kablo TV and Türksat satellite channels broadcasting to 118 countries as well as SEDEC’s YouTube account.
