The 8th DIMDEX Kicks Off

On 4 March, the Doha International Maritime Defence Exhibition and Conference (DIMDEX) 2024 commenced with an opening ceremony led by Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al-Thani, Deputy Emir of Qatar. The opening ceremony was attended by Dr. Khalid bin Mohamed Al Attiyah, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence Affairs of Qatar as well as attracting an esteemed gathering of ministers, ambassadors, delegation leaders, naval commanders, and company representatives from around the globe.

Major General (Navy) Abdullah bin Hassan Al-Sulaiti, Commander of the Qatar Amiri Naval Forces, stated the following in the opening speech: “DIMDEX 2024 aligns with the vision of our leadership and country, contributing to enhancing international security and stability, given their great impact on our societies and economy, in line with the objectives of the National Vision 2030 to achieve economic diversification and promote sustainable development across various fields.”

International Exhibition for All Defence Systems

Held under the theme “Igniting the Future of Maritime Security and Beyond”, the fair boasts participation from over 200 international and local companies. The event also showcases 9 international pavilions, featuring representation from Türkiye, the USA, Italy, France, Germany, the UK, Iran, China and Qatar.

DIMDEX is a maritime-focused exhibition, but in recent years, it has transformed into an all-encompassing defence fair, with many defence-related systems being exhibited, command and control systems, communications, computers, Internet, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (C5ISR), remote control systems, and unmanned systems among others like AI and cybersecurity solutions.
