Yonca-Onuk JV is Taking Its First Steps in Unmanned Surface Vessels

by MSI

Yonca-Onuk JV is preparing to add unmanned surface vessels (USVs) to its product line-up. In the second day of the fair, a memorandum of understanding was signed between HAVELSAN and Yonca-Onuk JV and according to the memorandum, a USV will be developed taking Yonca-Onuk JV’s MTRP12 Fast Patrol Craft as a basis.

In the agreement, the software for the missions such as reconnaissance, port/base security, minesweeping, submarine detection, surface/submarine warfare, which are conducted by the payloads of platforms produced by Yonca-Onuk JV,  will be developed by HAVELSAN. In addition, HAVELSAN will integrate the platforms with ADVENT Combat Management System. This will allow the platforms to work together with surface and land-based command centres and perform joint duties over networks.

As of this moment, 8 of MTRP12 patrol boats are in service in Turkish Naval Forces Command. The boats are 12.65-metre long and have a crew of four. They can reach a maximum speed of 45 knots and have a range of 150 nautical miles. The boats are used for base and port protection and have a 12.7mm stabilised turret developed by ASELSAN mounted on them. Finally, the boats have ballistic protection on their wheelhouses and windows.

Officials from Yonca-Onuk JV point out the advantages the USV will be developed on a proved platform that is already in service. The most important of these advantages is minimising the risks involved on the platform and integration with other boats that are already in service.
